[FirstGov] - The official entry point to the US Federal
Government, this site is well-maintained and very extensive. If it has to do with the US government, you'll find
it here.
[The Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management] - This
site differs from many nonprofit-oriented portals in its entrepreneurial approach. Peter Drucker is an immensely
respected business thinker and this attempt to bring that kind of rigor to the nonprofit world is a step in the
right direction.
Technology Operations
[APPL: The NASA Academy of Program and Project Leadership] -
An amazing site filled with resources, completely free of hype, and useful even if you're not a rocket
scientist. It's interesting to note that the NASA folks often talk less about technology than they do about
people and process.
[NewsFactor] - A portal for technology news, the NewsFactor
network also includes subject-specific sites such as OSOpinion. It's a good source for keeping up to date on the
information technology industry.
[IT Manager Republic] - Despite the unwieldy name, there are
good articles and news items focused at those in middle-management who deal with information technology issues.
The parent site, Tech Republic, can be annoying at times, but once you drill down, the info is valuable.
Tactics for Technology
[O'Reilly Books] - These folks create excellent computer books, and
their site offers news and resources for all kinds of computer technologies. In particular, their sites for
developers are fantastic, because they hone in on specific technologies.
[SecurityFocus] - Covering all aspects of computer
security, this site offers news, articles about the latest security apps, and best practices. Not only that, it
covers a wide variety of popular network operating systems. If you want to go beyond how to fix the latest
Outlook trojan horse, this is the place to go.
[UseIt] - While his opinions sometimes drive designers nuts, Jakob
Nielsen's constantly-updated site can help you make your website more useable. Nielsen is a consistent advocate
of easy to use technology, and his writing will definitely make you think.
